Ciao Tutti!! (Hello Everybody)
I wanted to have a foreign companion
1. because they are super cool and I love learning about other countries, and
2. Because if Italian is our main common language it will make learning the
language easier (because I like to talk, lol). It is awesome having
Sorella Pacheco as a companion because we really balance each other out.
She is better at Italian than me (she studied it for two years), so she can
help me when I don't get what the teacher is saying in Italian. I am very
good at English, so I can help her when she doesn't get what the teacher is
saying.... hahaha see the pattern? lol. We are both really funny people
though. We are constantly laughing, Le Sorelle in our dorm say that we
should have our own TV show because we are so funny. They also say we
have our own language, which we kinda do... It’s this weird combination of
Italian, English, Spanish, hand signals, and looks. We balance each other
out when planning for lessons too, because we usually have similar ideas and
goals, but also have different ways of looking at things.
The MTC is AMAZING! The spirit here
is so strong! So, some pretty cool news.... 1. I'm in the MTC Choir! The
auditions were intense.... You walk in, take a seat and they hand you a sheet
of music.... whew! I almost didn't make it! Haha, JK (Scherzo in Italian)
everyone who wanted to be in it, could be in it! Also, because my companion is
foreign we get front row seats saved for devotional (our performances).
That is really nice. We did this super cool rendition of Precious Savior,
Dear Redeemer. It was so cool! Also, the Choir director is the BEST! He
is so funny, but also very spiritual, and the songs he picks are very fun to
listen to and sing. (They did record our last performance, so it might be
on Youtube). We perform every Sunday. 2. I am senior
companion! That was also a very difficult process. Sorella Pacheco
and I both quickly checked our name tags, sang the alphabet song in our heads,
and sure enough N comes before P. (they decided that the senior companion
would be the one whose name comes first in the alphabet, super complex... we
did both check our name tags though... You'd be surprised how many missionaries
did that hahaha)
Okay, so I think I told you about
our Italian investigator, Simone (pronounced Sea-moan-eh(like Canadian eh....)
very Italian sounding name). We have been teaching him for a week now,
and our last day was on Thursday. We have all been trying to figure if he
was a real investigator, or a member acting as our investigator. I honestly
thought he was too real to be fake. Plot twist! He is a member! Double
plot twist! He speaks English! Triple plot twist! He is not from Italy!
He is from Arizona, his name is Carter, and he has no Italian in him. And
finally, the biggest plot twist of all!! HE IS OUR TEACHER!!! Yeah, that's
right! He had us all fooled.... Sorella Clark is still our teacher, but
Fratello Sloan (Formally known as Simone) will teach in the morning, and
Sorella Clark will teach in the afternoon. (We have like 6 hours of
language study).
I have seen Marshall and Joseph
(Heidi’s cousin) several times! (Pics below!) I think that Marshall
is getting sick of me lol. I have fun finding him, haha.
Our district is the best! We
all have huge personalities and love to talk. We have so much fun in
class! Sometimes we have too much fun and Sorella Clark makes us do wall
sits. And by us, I mean the Anziani. (Obviously Sorella Pacheco and
I have never caused any trouble in our whole lives.... nah... we just got out
of it because we were in skirts.) It is really funny because the more we
get to know each other the more we can see how the call to Italy is perfect for
all of us. We all are kinda on the too loud and crazy to be put in a room
together side, but it works out mostly perfectly, lol.
Yesterday Sorella Pacheco and I were
in the bathroom and we thought we were the only ones there so we are like
talking to each other in Italian across stalls, and then we started to sing a
song in Italian.... Sorella Clark was there the whole time! She thought our
whole conversation was hilarious, and told us our Italian was molto bene (very
good). So yeah, that happened lol.
I feel like every time I do
something weird one of the Anziani sees the whole thing, but maybe I just do
weird things a lot.....
Sometimes during PE I see
missionaries and think "Woah! Missionaries! I should go say hi!" And
then I realize that I am a missionary, currently surrounded by missionaries...
and have been surrounded by missionaries 24 hours a day for the last week.....
Seeing the Meeks (Heidi’s Aunt,
Uncle and cousins) was sooooooo much fun!!! (Pics below!!!) I cannot believe
that they managed to run into me. Although the MTC tour does go literally
everywhere I go (my dorm, my class, my food eating area, my foursquare place
thing.... haha gym.... it’s called a gym....) anyway, it is like being in a
zoo... people even take pictures of you.... which I find super weird... like
what is so interesting about my salad eating habits that you feel the need to
take a pic? but whatever... I like it when i bambini (the children) and people
I know come through...
Enjoy the pics!
Vi vogilo bene! (I love you)
Sorella Nelson
